What happens when banned?

Can i just ask what happens when you get your console banned? all i read is that your console id and psn account used at that time gets blacklisted resulting in a permanent ban for those two things. What else happens? Does your console get disabled like your console will not be able to do anything as in no more homebrew, no backups? Just very curious, i want to go online and sync my trophies, don't care if i get banned but will that mean my console will get disabled and won't even allow me to run my legit games?

Also some advice/ up to date thread links, about going online safely would be appreciated :)
